The luxury Swiss watch brand will join
forces with the Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians to host the
inaugural London Music Awards, which will take place at the Roundhouse
on June 11
Hosted by Mayor Boris Johnson, this event is designed to
recognise the achievements of London’s aspiring young musicians, its
rising stars and legendary performers. Among those set to perform on the
night are Soul II Soul, Jermain Jackman (winner of The Voice UK 2014),
Brit School musician Natalie Shay, singer-song writer Kimberly Anne and
pop star in the ascendant Laura Bettinson (AKA Femme). Compere for the
event will be Classic FM’s DJ Margherita Taylor, who will be joined by
Channel 4 news legend Jon Snow.
“We are thrilled to play such as
integral role in the London Music Awards given our association with the
music industry at all levels, and especially to be able to continue to
find and develop new talent,” said Raymond Weil’s CEO Elie Bernheim.
“The London Music Awards offer Raymond Weil a significant opportunity to
help the Mayor’s Music Fund to raise much-needed financial support for
the thousands of young children in their journey to become the next
generation of trained and skilled musicians, who will maintain London’s
status as the music capital of the world for years to come.”
The
London Music Awards is the latest addition to Raymond Weil’s
music-inspired marketing strategy and will become a significant part of
the brand’s activity from June. The awards night is an important
fundraiser for the Mayor’s Music Fund - a charity that nurtures and
develops the potential of children with significant musical ability but
limited finances, from across London’s 32 boroughs. In just two years
the charity has awarded grants worth £1.3m, helping over 14,000 young
musicians.
Speaking about the event, Mayor Boris Johnson said:
“The Mayor’s Music Fund is doing a fantastic job helping to nurture the
potential of talented young musicians, who might not otherwise be able
to develop their skills. As well as being a fundraiser, the London
Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the talent that has helped ensure
London’s status as the music capital of the world.”
Raymond
Weil’s involvement with the London Music Awards stems from years of
support for the music industry. It continues to collaborate with the
music industry’s emerging talents, most prestigious artists, music
awards ceremonies and music based charities.
